Crochet Basic Stitches
I use the terms for USA.
UK has a slightly different meaning for each of the following. (There is no Single Crochet in the UK.)
I have put a video below to explain the US terms, and I have also attached a table, after the videos, to show the difference between the USA and UK.
Chain (ch) | Single Crochet (sc) | Double Crochet (dc) | Treble Crochet (tr)
Half Double Crochet (hdc)
Below is a table which converts the US to UK for stitches. If you’re reading a pattern, be sure to know which country the pattern was written in, so you can use this table to work out which stitch you should actually be doing.
US | UK |
---|---|
chain(ch) | chain(ch) |
single crochet (sc) | double crochet (dc) |
double crochet (dc) | treble (tr) |
half double crochet (hdc) | half treble (htr) |
triple crochet (trc) | double treble (dtr) |
slip stitch (sl st) | slip stitch (sl st) |
